The Mines & Environment National Roundtable Network is a professional forum bringing together mining companies, government and regulatory representatives, environmental professionals, technical specialists, researchers and industry leaders to examine significant and emerging issues across Australia's mining and environmental sectors.
Roundtables are delivered quarterly in select Australian cities, with each Roundtable developed around a defined issue of relevance to the sector and the jurisdiction in which it is held.
The program is deliberately diverse and responsive.
Topics can span a broad range of mining and environmental issues — from mine closure challenges and accounting risk in mining to environmental management, regulatory reform, rehabilitation, water management, biodiversity, post-mining land use and emerging environmental challenges.
The same program is not simply replicated from city to city.
Issues are identified according to their relevance, timing and importance. Mines & Environment liaises with relevant industry representatives, regulators, government and technical specialists to help inform the subject matter and bring appropriate expertise and perspectives into the room.
The result is a national program that is current, responsive and solution-focused.
A DIFFERENT KIND OF PROFESSIONAL FORUM
Mines & Environment Roundtables are not traditional conferences.
Each Roundtable is structured around a specific issue, supported by carefully developed discussion themes and guiding questions.
The emphasis is on professional exchange, informed discussion and meaningful participation.
Depending on the subject matter, a Roundtable may bring together representatives from:
-
Mining companies and resource operators
-
Government departments and regulatory agencies
-
Environment and sustainability teams
-
Mine closure and rehabilitation professionals
-
Environmental approvals and regulatory specialists
-
Water and hydrogeology professionals
-
Tenure and land-access specialists
-
Finance, accounting, risk and governance professionals
-
Environmental and engineering consultants
-
Legal and regulatory advisers
-
Researchers and universities
-
Environmental monitoring and remediation specialists
-
Other technical and professional disciplines relevant to the issue being examined
Participants are not expected to hold the same views, nor is the purpose of the forum to advocate a predetermined position.
Instead, the Roundtable provides an independent professional environment in which different perspectives can be explored constructively.
STRICTLY LIMITED ROUNDTABLES
The effectiveness of a Roundtable depends on participants having a genuine opportunity to contribute.
For this reason, Mines & Environment Roundtables are strictly limited to fewer than 60 participants.
This limit is intentional.
The Roundtables are not designed to become large-scale conferences. Maintaining a focused room supports stronger professional interaction, more substantive discussion and greater opportunity for participants to contribute.
Places can fill quickly.
Once capacity is reached, a waitlist may be established, with places offered as they become available.
Professional Members receive priority registration opportunities according to their level of membership and subject to individual Roundtable capacity.
ONE DISCUSSION CAN INFORM THE NEXT
Complex mining and environmental matters rarely exist in isolation.
A discussion about rehabilitation may lead to questions concerning completion criteria or relinquishment. A water discussion may identify broader environmental, operational or regulatory issues. A mine closure discussion may lead to questions concerning financial provisioning, long-term liability, tenure or post-mining land use.
The National Roundtable Network allows these conversations to continue and develop.
An issue emerging from one forum may inform a subsequent Roundtable, while new jurisdiction-specific matters can be introduced as they arise.
This creates a national program that evolves alongside the mining and environmental sectors rather than following a fixed or repetitive agenda.

NATIONAL CORPORATE MEMBER
$1,500 inc GST per annum
One Organisation. Different Expertise. National Participation.
Mining and environmental challenges rarely sit within a single department or professional discipline. The person best placed to participate in a Roundtable will often depend on the issue being examined. A mine closure discussion may be most relevant to an Environmental Manager, Closure Manager or Approvals specialist.A water-focused discussion may require hydrogeological, environmental or operational expertise.A discussion concerning closure liabilities may instead require expertise from finance, risk, governance, asset management or corporate teams.
National Corporate Membership gives organisations the flexibility to involve the right people in the right discussions.
Rather than being attached to one individual, Corporate Membership is held by the organisation.

-

National coverage across eligible Mines & Environment Roundtables

Depending on the subject matter, selected representatives may be considered as:
-
Speakers
-

-
Technical or professional contributors
-

Subject-matter contributors in another relevant capacity

All nominations remain subject to professional relevance, demonstrated expertise, program requirements, available positions, appropriate balance and independence of the Roundtable, and the approval and discretion of Mines & Environment.
Best suited to:
Mining and resources companies, environmental and engineering consultancies, professional services organisations, technical firms and other organisations with multiple employees or disciplines that may benefit from different Roundtable subjects throughout the year.
HELP SHAPE FUTURE ROUNDTABLES
The professionals working directly with mining and environmental issues are often among the first to identify emerging challenges.
Affiliates and Members are encouraged to suggest matters they believe warrant further professional examination.
An issue may be specific to one jurisdiction or have broader national relevance.
It may require regulatory input, technical expertise, operational perspectives or contributions from several different disciplines.
Where an issue has sufficient relevance, Mines & Environment may undertake further stakeholder engagement and consider developing it into a future Roundtable.
This helps ensure the program remains current, responsive and relevant to the sector.
INDEPENDENCE & REGULATORY PARTICIPATION
The independence of the Mines & Environment National Roundtable Network is fundamental to its credibility.
Government and regulatory participation is managed separately from commercial Affiliate and Membership arrangements.
Affiliate status or Membership does not provide preferential access to government or regulatory representatives.
It does not provide influence over regulatory decisions, approvals or government processes.
Similarly, Speaker, Panellist and Contributor opportunities are not purchased or guaranteed through membership. Selection is based on professional relevance, expertise and the requirements of each individual Roundtable.
Mines & Environment retains discretion over Roundtable development, participant composition and Speaker and Contributor selection to help ensure each forum remains relevant, balanced, independent and appropriate to the issue being examined.
