AASB S2 Explained
The commonly introduced four pillars of AASB S2 and climate disclosure in general; Governance, Strategy, Risk Management, and Metrics and Targets provide report readers with a clear and logical order to process and understand an entity’s climate risk. However, listing and describing these sections does not give new (and perhaps existing) report preparers a good basis for understanding AASB S2 and integrating an understanding of climate-related risks into their company.

The key to understanding AASB S2 is to centre climate-related risks opportunities (CRROs) and relate them to their potential impacts on the financial performance of a company.
These climate disclosures are made alongside a company’s financial statements and exist to complement them.
All other disclosures can then either be understood as a required input to assess a company’s CRROs or as a downstream consequence of a company’s CRROs. Classifying a disclosure into one of these categories helps an AASB S2 report preparer understand why each disclosure is necessary and the signals it sends to financial markets.

This presentation will use this risk-based conceptual model to explain each of the key components of AASB S2 disclosures with practical examples and important lessons learnt from our experience in an Australian mining context.
Key themes will include understanding why AASB S2 has been introduced and identifying the critical considerations and steps in your company’s implementation process.
